San Diego Green Carpet Cleaner - Seasonal Eating (August)

With every one still spending most of their time at home, and cooking at home, I thought it would be great time to look at the produce that is currently in season. California already has an advantage of being able to grow most produce year around, however August is a particularly great month when it comes to fruits and vegetables because so many are in season!

Why should we be concerned with what is in season?

There are several reasons why eating food that are is season are beneficial. Chiefly being that they are more nutrient dense. If a fruit or vegetable is harvested before it has had time to ripen fully, its nutrient production is halted. This in turn leads to produce with a richer flavor, and over all tastes significantly better. When you are buying, for example, oranges out of season they are picked before they have ripened fully and are transported across the country and left to ripen in a box and cut off from its tree and the sun. Additional benefits to eating seasonally are that is can be more affordable and environmentally friendly.
