San Diego Green Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner - DIY dog shampoo

As a green nontoxic carpet cleaning company we know that many of our clients work hard to keep their homes a clean and safe environment, especially those with furry family members. So we’ve decided to help out by sharing a simple DIY dog shampoo recipe! As the weather gets warmer and more time is spent outside our canine companions are going to need to be bathed regularly to limit the amount of soil and dander that gets trapped in your carpets and upholstery.

I’m sure many of us, myself included, have found ourselves with a dirty dog and no dog shampoo. While our first instinct may be to use our own perhaps, that isn’t the healthiest option for your dog. Their skin pH is less acidic than ours, and so using a shampoo meant for humans can cause skin irritation. However this safe and easy 3-Ingredient Simple Shampoo is a great alternative and approved by the American Kennel Club.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 cups of warm water
  • 1/4 cup of dish soap
  • 1/2 cup of white vinegar
  • 1 spray bottle

Dish detergent is designed to wash away grease and oil, and will work just as well with oils that naturally accumulate on your dog’s coat and skin. White vinegar has antibacterial and deodorant properties, as we have learned in past articles, and will leave your dog’s coat shiny and clean. You will simply combine all ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well to mix. After wetting you dog’s coat with warm water, spray them generously with the mixture and rub into a thick lather. Be careful as to avoid their eyes. Rinse thoroughly and more than once, even if you believe all the soap to be gone. Then you dry off them off as best you can, and you have a fresh clean dog!
